Abstract
Inordertoinvestigaterolesofdopaminereceptorsubtypesinreward-basedlearning,weexaminedchoicebehaviorofdopamineD1andD2receptor-knockout(D1R-KOandD2R-KO,respectively)miceinaninstrumentallearningtaskwithprogressivelyincreasingreversalfrequencyandadynamictwo-armedbandittask.PerformanceofD2R-KOmicewasprogressivelyimpairedintheformerasthefrequencyofreversalincreasedandprofoundlyimpairedinthelatterevenwithprolongedtraining,whereasD1R-KOmiceshowedrelativelyminorperformancedeficits.Choicebehaviorinthedynamictwo-armedbandittaskwaswellexplainedbyahybridmodelincludingwin-stay-lose-switchandreinforcementlearningterms.Amodel-basedanalysisrevealedincreasedwin-stay,butimpairedvalueupdatinganddecreasedvalue-dependentactionselectioninD2R-KOmice,whichweredetrimentaltomaximizingrewardsinthedynamictwo-armedbandittask.TheseresultssuggestanimportantroleofdopamineD2receptorsinlearningfrompastchoiceoutcomesforrapidadjustmentofchoicebehaviorinadynamicanduncertainenvironment.
