dc.description.abstract | As anationalscienceproject,theKoreangovernmenthasrecentlyestablishedtheInstituteforBasic Science (IBS)withthegoalofconductingworld-classresearchinbasicsciences.Oneofthecorefacilities for theIBSwillbetherareisotopeacceleratorwhichcanproducehigh-intensityrareisotopebeamsto investigatethefundamentalpropertiesofnature,andalsotosupportabroadresearchprogramin material sciences,medicalandbiosciences,andfuturenuclearenergytechnologies.Theconstructionof the acceleratorisscheduledtobecompletedbyapproximately2017.Thedesignoftheaccelerator complexisoptimizedtodeliverhighaveragebeamcurrentontargets,andtomaximizetheproductionof rareisotopebeamsthroughthesimultaneoususeofIsotopeSeparationOn-Line(ISOL)andIn-Flight Fragmentation(IFF)methods.Theproposedacceleratoris,however,notoptimalforhighenergydensity science, whichusuallyrequiresveryhighpeakcurrentsonthetarget.Inthisstudy,wepresentpossible beam–plasma experimentsthatcanbedonewithinthescopeofthecurrentacceleratordesign,andwe also investigatepossiblefutureextensionpathsthatmayenablehighenergydensitysciencewithintense pulsed heavyionbeams. | - |
